Why a Web Site?
In 1997 we decided to sign on to America Online. It was an almost instant addiction. First there were the chat rooms. My brother urged me to get out of the chat rooms and surf. I had nothing that I wanted to research, so I stayed in chats.
I had no idea that there were personal pages to be enjoyed.
Then one day, my daughter, Karen, came for a visit and I, introduced her to chats. She became as addicted as I and soon got a computer. When she finally got online, she called me. It was midnight, but she and I chatted another hour or so.
It was like having her in the same room, instead of 100 miles away. I will admit, I shed a few tears.
Through IMs, I was always there to help her and show her the ropes of AOL. We would go to chat rooms and pretend we didn't know each other and say outrageous things. Many times the tears of hysterical laughter rolled down our cheeks. She would even bring her computer to my house and we would each hook up, sitting in the same room talking in the same chat room. (I had gotten 2 telephone lines, so my husband could get ahold of me, but I am not addicted *G*)
Then one day she sent me a web page. It was hers. I was so amazed.....I thot, I can't let that girl get ahead of me. But, I had nothing to say.
About a month later, another daughter, Crissy, was chatting with a Doctor from Kansas City and he mentioned that he did not believe in animal research. WHOOAAA! I wonder where his bread was buttered from.
(Crissy was a Vet Tech, at the time, working in heart research.)
Because of that conversation, the first page of TinChicken's site was born. It took 6 weeks of tears to complete it. You will find it on the contents page. It is called very simply,
Tom.
That page needed a separate page for credits and another for the words to the music that was on his page. Hence a web site instead of just a page.
Tom's page is a real tear jerker so I thot, I really need to lighten up this site. I had gotten very funny jokes in email. Waa Laa! the fun pages were born.
The fun pages included a song "Boot Scootn' Boogie" and it was such a hit, with requests for more. The Songbook then appeared. (sorry, Boot Scoot is no longer there. It is under copyright protection.)
So to answer all the questions about how TinChicken's Web Site started.....that is it.
It was made with the help of my son, Jeff, daughters, Karen and ideas (The Internet Addiction Clinic) from Crissy, the jokes I get in E-Mail and a few ideas of my own. I, also, could not have done this without help from some instructional web pages and a book called "HTML for the World Wide Web" by Elizabeth Castro and "right click" view source.
As to the name, TinChicken....well, that will have to wait for another day. Some day, maybe, a page.....
